Climate Solutions Accelerator

The Climate Solutions Accelerator is a program designed to foster impactful research and bring effective climate solutions to communities in Pennsylvania and around the world.

Inspired by Penn State’s land-grant mission, the Climate Solutions Accelerator facilitates connections among researchers, implementation partners, and community members across various fields to address the challenges of climate change. By working together, we can forecast climate impacts more accurately, identify locations and regions at risk, and implement equitable and sustainable solutions that ensure a healthier future for both people and the planet.

Helping Research Teams Take Flight

The Climate Solutions Accelerator empowers research teams working on promising climate solutions with access to essential resources, mentorship, and funding.

Engaging Partners for Real-World Impact

Implementation partners from industry, government, and foundations provide valuable insights and expertise, ensuring that program solutions have a meaningful and tangible impact on the real world.

Implementing Place-Based Solutions

By focusing on place-based engagement, the program acknowledges that climate change impacts communities differently and addresses each location’s unique challenges and opportunities.

2024 Climate Solutions Accelerator Program

The Climate Solutions Accelerator’s inaugural program provides faculty opportunities to receive funding for workshops and projects.

Level 1: Workshops

Level 1 was a call for proposals for collaborative workshops to establish and/or advance teams aligned with the Climate Consortium’s themes. Level 1 workshop proposals are expected to support the development of level 2 Accelerator team projects.

Level 2: Call for Project Proposals

The Penn State Climate Consortium has announced a request for proposals for team projects that put proven climate solutions into action through interdisciplinary partnerships. The deadline to submit a proposal is Sept. 4 at 5 p.m. (ET).

All Penn State faculty members (tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenure-track) who hold an appointment at any Penn State campus are eligible to submit a proposal as principal investigator. Proposed projects should be beyond the idea/concept phase and should be ready to scale and/or be implemented by the end of the anticipated two-year funding period. Although this call is termed “level two” (with level one being a call for Climate Solutions Accelerator workshops), it is not required for applicants to have held a workshop to apply for level two.
